20 Phrases Every Parent Should Say To Their Children

20 Phrases Every Parent Should Say To Their Children

A few weeks ago I spoke with a parent about her child’s academic progress and she was greatly concerned about her daughters’ confidence and self-esteem. Since the beginning of 5th grade, she has noticed a decline in her daughter’s confidence level. Her daughter has been down on herself and hasn’t been feeling very positive; in fact mom described her daughter as being “very negative and down” towards her overall life and school skills.   Mom was distraught and overwhelmed with sadness and was not sure how to help her daughter. Mom asked me, “I always tell my kid how proud I am of her, do you have any suggestions on ways that I can praise her as to help build her confidence?” I gave her some ways to praise her child at home and gave her some ideas on how to help support her at home and how to get the school involved. However, this conversation really stayed with me over the past several weeks. I kept thinking, how many parents are going through the same struggles with their child? How can other parents help their children develop a sense of confidence and empowerment? How can parents help their children […]

Inspired By Students

Over the past few months I have had the wonderful opportunity of attending networking events sponsored by Hatboro-Horsham School District. During these events I have met many new business owners, entrepreneurs and business professionals. It was has been such an enlightening experience connecting with new professionals. However, the most memorable and inspiring aspects of these networking events is learning about the innovative and exciting programs that are happening throughout the schools within the Hatboro-Horsham School District. Today was especially inspiring! Some of the students from Keith Valley Middle School shared with us the wonderful work they have been doing with coding! In case you are not aware, coding is how we create websites, apps, and computer software. These students presented us with the work that they have done personally. We are not talking about high school or college students but rather we were presented with the work of 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Not just any work, but amazing jaw-dropping video games, apps and websites.   As an educator, I can appreciate both the hard work of these teachers and the determination, drive and creativity of these students. However, the entire room of the business professionals were blown away by […]

Back To School Tips

Back to school is the beginning of a new year. It brings along new friends, new teachers and new experiences. Along with these new things comes along many emotions for both parents and kids. As a parent, I find myself excited about my girls’ new experiences. Rekindling old friendships and making new ones. Getting to know their new teacher and learning about their new class.  I also find myself feeling bittersweet about the new year. Excited that they are growing into a new part of their lives but also sadden by the realization that my three young girls are growing way too fast. Children experience a wide range of emotions as well.  They may feel excitement and anxiety for the upcoming year. How can parents minimize any of that worry and help their child ease into a new school year? 1.  Talk, Talk, Talk. Have a heart to heart with your child. Ask them about what they are feeling about the upcoming school year. You may be surprised with what you learn. Be sure to really listen to their feelings. Reassure them that the new change into the school year will be okay and that what they are feeling is […]
