Back To School Tips for Success

Aug 2, 2023 by Yolanda Fontanez-Coleman | Back To School, Tutors

As August rolls in and the summer days are long and relaxing, back to school season is just around the corner. The key for any successful school year is all about planning and being organized. Plan early and get started on your back to school success plan today!

Our team put together some tips for parents and students to ensure a successful, and stress-free back to school plan:

  • Calendar and Schedule: Review the academic calendar of your child’s school and make note of important dates such as the first day of school, parent-teacher conferences, holidays, and half-days. Establish the family calendar to keep track of school events, extracurricular activities, and appointments.
  • School Supplies: Gather the school supply list and take inventory of your school supplies at home. Purchase what you need and have all supplies ready for the first day of school. Be sure to check your child’s backpack, lunchbox, and water bottle for any wear and tear, and consider replacing them if needed.
  • School Uniforms or Attire: If your child’s school has a uniform or dress code, ensure that their uniforms are clean, fit well, and meet the school’s guidelines. Purchase new uniforms or attire  if required and ensure you are prepared and ready to go for the first week of school.
  • Health Check-ups: Try to get your child’s health check up prior to the start of school. It’s important to update your child’s health records and that all updated vaccines are completed. This is also important if your child is playing a sport as well. Obtain a copy of your child’s medical records for school and the athletic departments.
  • Sleep Routine: Gradually adjust your child’s sleep schedule to align with the school routine. Ensuring they get enough sleep is essential for their well-being and academic performance.
  • School Transportation: Planning out your child’s transportation to and from school is essential. Ensure you know the bus routes and  familiarize them with the bus stop location and schedule. If you are setting up a carpool, ensure that the plan is in place well before the first day of school.
  • Set Up Your Homework Area: Set up a designated homework area at home with all the necessary supplies to help your child stay organized and focused on their studies. Ensure that it’s well lit and free from high traffic areas in the home. Allow your child to set it up with you so they have an invested interest in the space.
  • Hire A Tutor: As parents, we know how our children perform academically,  we know of their academic strengths and needs. If your child struggles in school or does best with the support of a tutor, secure your tutor prior to the start of the school year. Secure a schedule so you have peace of mind that your child has the academic support they need for high academic performance and success.

Allocating time for organizing and preparing for the upcoming school year well in advance will ensure that you and your family are well prepared for the start of school. It will minimize stress and create a positive and successful start of the school year.

We hope you have a wonderful and successful school year! If you would like to secure your tutor, please contact our office for a free academic consultation, 215-657-1981.
