The end of the marking period is coming to a close. For many of us it’s the first time we will meet our child’s teacher. It’s an opportunity to find out how your child is doing academically, emotionally and socially. Avoid leaving your conference feeling frustrated by asking meaningful questions. Going into the conference prepared will not only make it go smoothly but will help you get a better understanding of your child’s progress in the classroom.

Here’s a list of questions to help you make the most of your 15-minute conference.

1. How is my child doing socially?

2. How is my child doing emotionally?

3. Is my child organized?

4. Does my child hand in assignments on time?

5. Does my child participate in class?

6. Is my child disruptive in class?

7. Does my child follow the rules?

8. What are my child’s strengths and weaknesses?

9. Is my child struggling in any subjects?

10. Is my child performing at grade level?

11. What is the best way to communicate with you?

12. Does my child struggle to stay on task and complete classroom assignments?

If your child has specials needs:

1. Have you read my child’s IEP or 504 Plan?

2. What accommodations are you making for my child?

Most importantly… What can I do to help?

What do you do to prepare for Parent-Teacher Conferences? What questions do you ask your child’s teacher?
