Losing Focus For School & Homework? Try These 6 Tips!

Do you find it difficult to stay focused in school? Are you losing interest in school? Is it hard to complete your homework assignments or study for a test? There are many ways to recharge your motivation and focus toward school and school work. Maintaining motivation can be challenging but it is possible. Here are 6 tips for motivation and focus that can lead to your academic success. Define Your Goals: Set academic goals for yourself. Be clear and set tangible goals for yourself. Are you a B student? Are you capable of attaining higher grades? Write down these goals in a place that you can see on a daily basis. Do a weekly check-in and be true to your goals. Create a Plan: Once you have defined your academic goals. Set up a plan. How will you achieve this goal? Will you study with a tutor or alone? Share your plan with your parent or teacher. 20 Phrases Every Parent Should Say To Their Children

20 Phrases Every Parent Should Say To Their Children

A few weeks ago I spoke with a parent about her child’s academic progress and she was greatly concerned about her daughters’ confidence and self-esteem. Since the beginning of 5th grade, she has noticed a decline in her daughter’s confidence level. Her daughter has been down on herself and hasn’t been feeling very positive; in fact mom described her daughter as being “very negative and down” towards her overall life and school skills.   Mom was distraught and overwhelmed with sadness and was not sure how to help her daughter. Mom asked me, “I always tell my kid how proud I am of her, do you have any suggestions on ways that I can praise her as to help build her confidence?” I gave her some ways to praise her child at home and gave her some ideas on how to help support her at home and how to get the school involved. However, this conversation really stayed with me over the past several weeks. I kept thinking, how many parents are going through the same struggles with their child? How can other parents help their children develop a sense of confidence and empowerment? How can parents help their children […]

Inspired By Students

Over the past few months I have had the wonderful opportunity of attending networking events sponsored by Hatboro-Horsham School District. During these events I have met many new business owners, entrepreneurs and business professionals. It was has been such an enlightening experience connecting with new professionals. However, the most memorable and inspiring aspects of these networking events is learning about the innovative and exciting programs that are happening throughout the schools within the Hatboro-Horsham School District. Today was especially inspiring! Some of the students from Keith Valley Middle School shared with us the wonderful work they have been doing with coding! In case you are not aware, coding is how we create websites, apps, and computer software. These students presented us with the work that they have done personally. We are not talking about high school or college students but rather we were presented with the work of 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Not just any work, but amazing jaw-dropping video games, apps and websites.   As an educator, I can appreciate both the hard work of these teachers and the determination, drive and creativity of these students. However, the entire room of the business professionals were blown away by […]

Inspired By My Student

When working with students there comes a time when a student inspires you more than realize. This has been occurring with this student that I have been working with you over the years. She is a very creative, artistic and sweet 4th grader that struggles with math. (She has many times mentioned to me how much she dislikes math.) She is a visual and kinesthetic learner. She excels when you make the lessons interactive and creative. She is working on fractions in math class (which is quite a challenge for her). However,  with repetition and varied lessons she has been able to master some of these skills. We use a variety of teaching tools: classroom resources on-line, manipulatives, Khan Academy, we implement just about anything. Just recently we have been using the app, Educreations, where she can create her own lessons and videos. Wow, this has opened the door for her. She is now repeating lessons on this app and showing her peers how to solve problems. She finally mastered converting mixed numbers to improper fractions. She still encounters bumps in her learning process but she is empowered by her knowledge and personal progress. Watch this video and see how […]
