Summer Learning Series Week 4

Welcome to Week 4 of our summer learning series. Here are some learning activities this week that will keep your child stimulated. Are you using those summer bridge books? They are great for working on specific subject skills however give your child a break this week and work on our summer learning activities to help prevent summer learning loss.

Monday: (Math & Geography) Travel Fun! Use a map and calculate where you will be if you travel 5, 10 or 50 miles from your home. Mark it on the map. Learn about those cities or towns. Use the internet and do some research.

Tuesday: (Art & Writing) Summer Artist: Grab a bucket, water and a few paint brushes. Go outside and write your sight or vocabulary words on the sidewalk. If you would rather see the words in color, grab some sidewalk chalk and write them along your driveway.

Wednesday: (Writing) Calling All Writers!: Write your own play today. You can work with a friend on this activity. Work together by creating your very own play. Focus on having a few characters. What is the setting of your play? What is the problem and solution in your play? Have fun with this activity. When you have completed your play, grab a few people to be your actors. Now you will direct and maybe even star in your own play! Practice your lines and put on a show!

Thursday: (Science) Meteorologists! Keep track of the weather over the next week or so. Include the temperature, humidity, clouds, precipitation, wind and air pressure. Can you predict what the weather will be over the next few days? Share your weather log with your friend ask them to take part in this activity and compare your findings.

Friday: (Reading): Practice your reading aloud to a few different people today. Ask them to video tape you while you are reading. Watch the video and critique your reading. This is a great way to listen to how you read. Keep reading aloud as this will build your fluency.

Keep kids learning all summer long with a variety of learning activities. Skill learning is just as important as challenging your imagination and creativity. Think beyond the workbooks and let the learning continue all summer long! What are you doing at home to prevent summer learning loss?
