When Should I Start Test Prep for the ACT or SAT Exams?

Dec 5, 2012 by Yolanda Fontanez-Coleman | ACT, SAT Prep, Test Prep

We are often asked when should my child should begin a test prep program?  The first factor in deciding when to prep for these tests is to decide, which test date you will be taking. Most prep programs begin about 6 weeks to 15 weeks before the test and leads up to the exam. A students’ choice of when to begin their ACT or SAT prep programs can be looked at in 2 different ways.

Get a head start! The summer before the junior year is the final free time that students have before the SAT or ACT. Even though the October PSAT is the primary goal, many students continue studying for a spring SAT or ACT date. Not all students however are ready for this level of academic and motivational endurance.

Can you multi-task?  If your child is able to manage the demands of academic work, extracurriculars and test prep then choosing a program that is leading up to the January, March or May SAT would be best for him. The benefit of this is that you will be fresh up to the test day.

Now that you know your options can you now answer when is the best time for you to prep for the upcoming tests? If you are not sure when the test dates are take a peak at our ACT test & SAT test calendar for more information.
