Art and Reading

Combining art and reading is a great way to promote creativity and foster the love of reading. Integrating art and reading sparks  your child’s imagination while encouraging literacy.  Here are some simple ways to combine art and reading.

Bring The Character To Life: Have your child draw a picture of the main character of the story. Design the main character using a variety of art materials such as paint, crayons, fabric, beads. Also, include the setting and other characters. Enjoy displaying this character so others can see and appreciate the art work!

Design A Comic Book: Create a comic book based on your child’s favorite book. Your child can write a comic based on what happened in the story or they can create their own tale. What other adventures might the characters experience?

Book Flag: Design a book flag. Include all the elements of the book: characters, setting, problem and plot. Use colors that are related to the book. Include a variety of art materials to make the flag as vibrant and creative as possible.

Connecting art with literacy brings the story to life, deepens the meaning for the student and makes it an overall enjoyable experience. Do you have creative ideas on how to connect art with reading?
