4 Tips on Timing for ACT and SAT

Here are some strategies that will help you while taking the ACT and SAT tests.

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE: Take as many practice tests as you can. There are many free proctored tests out there. This is a great way to simulate the actual test. It helps you learn the pace you will need on TEST Day!

Don’t Get Stuck: It is important not to  get stuck on one question. Answer all the easy ones first then go back to the more challenging questions.

To Guess or NOT to GUESS: Do NOT GUESS on the SAT! You will be penalized a quarter point for every incorrect answer. The ACT however does not penalize for wrong answers, so fill in those bubbles fast when the proctor calls out five minutes!

Know YOUR Pacing Strategies: The SAT test gives you 70 minutes a section for 54 math and 67 reading questions. The ACT allows you 60 minutes for 60 questions but the English allows only 45 minutes for 75 questions. Skimming passages and heading right to the questions may work on the ACT when you only have a minute and a half to read passages and 30 seconds to answer each question.

We hope these strategies help you on both the ACT and SAT! Good luck students!
