Tips for Preparing for Your First Tutoring Session

At Team Tutor, a student works one-on-one with a tutor professional. This time is unique and powerful. Our tutors set goals and plan activities that fit with your child’s individual needs. In our one-to-one setting, we have the ability to minimize your student’s academic insecurities, play to the student’s strengths and engage them with their interests.

What areas is your child currently struggling with?

A tutor’s first question before meeting your child may be “What area is your student struggling?” Many students feel insecure about subjects that do not come easy to them. Tutors want to work with you and your child to develop goals to work towards while tutoring. This gives your child something to keep them motivated and feel the success when they see their own growth.

What areas is your child showing signs of strength?

Every child has areas of strength in the classroom or in extracurricular activities. These are settings and activities where your child feels confident and independent. For example a student may struggle with math, but loves to read. Since a tutor can provide a truly personal learning experience we can incorporate your student’s strengths into the concepts they need to practice and build mastery.

The Little Details And Small Touches

Tutors want to know about what makes your child smile! When we have a clear idea of your child’s interests we can include those small details into a session to help keep students energized and engaged. This may be as simple as using a certain movie character in a math word problem or choosing books based on something they enjoy. These little touches help the students stay focused and have a little fun each session!

Tutors build academic confidence when they know your students strengths, interests, and goals. Team Tutor can’t wait to get to know your child and help them succeed!
