Does your child have “good study habits? Good study habits is a skill that is learned and practiced over time. “Practice makes progress” is an excellent cliche when thinking of creating good study habits. Creating good study habits come from consistent daily practice. Here are some tips on how to create good study habits and keep them going for a long time.

1. Set Time Aside:

Make a conscience intention to set time every day to focus on studying even when you don’t have an upcoming test. This may seem overwhelming or odd,  however, all you need is about 15 minutes daily to be effective. Focus on one subject and re-read your notes or chapter. 15 minutes of complete focus and attention can be extremely beneficial. The daily practice of studying for 15 minutes will increase memory, improve your confidence and create a positive habit that leads to overall academic success.

2. Be Flexible & Adjust:

Not all study strategies work for everyone. Have the mindset of being flexible and adjusting. For example, if re-writing notes doesn’t work for you, then it is time to find another study method that does work for you. Perhaps re-reading notes is more effective for you. Do not allow your self to get frustrated instead be flexible, adjust and be open to the learning process.

3. Create a Study Group:

Enlist one or more friends. Set a weekly time to review material together. Either meet up at a local library or simply FaceTime each other. Be efficient with your time and be true to the purpose of the group. Appoint a timer & appoint a lead facilitator of the group, this will ensure that your group stays focused. Creating study groups is an excellent way to foster good study habits.

Creating good study habits take time. Be patient, be consistent and trust the process. Creating a habit takes time so be sure to keep the momentum of your daily study habit, set an alarm so you are consistent or ask a parent to be your accountability partner. Taking the time to establish good study habits will have positive rewards in the long run. Do you have tips on how to create good study habits? We would love to hear from you!
