Summer Tips to Help with SAT and ACT Tests

Jul 18, 2012 by Yolanda Fontanez-Coleman | SAT Prep

Summertime and the living is easy…TRUE!  But, you should set aside some time to keep your brain working and training it for the ACT/SAT tests also!  Even if you can only block out 1 hour a day, it is worth it and will make a difference when it comes time to taking the test.  During the hour or so, it is important to practice and review skills.  By practicing, or taking sample tests, your eyes become used to picking out the extraneous choices and help you to make your 50/50 answer choice selection.  Also, the more you see the multiple choice test formats, the more comfortable you will be and  you will experience less anxiety on the day of the test.  Review your practice test and score them.  If you find that you are constantly struggling with certain types of questions (algebra, comprehension, etc.) or styles of questions (open ended, multiple choice, etc.) then spend some time reviewing these concepts and formats.  There are numerous resources online to use as review or reference tools.  Our test prep program books are also a great resource, as they have great mini lessons on concepts.  Lastly, incorporate a “problem of the day” into your routine.  This is not something you have to go out of your way to create – the College Board  SAT website has it for you!  Use the resources at your fingertips as they are available!
