What Do I Need For My First Tutor Session?

Jul 20, 2022 by Mary Kate | Online Tutoring, Tutoring

Congratulations! You have just scheduled your first tutoring session at Team Tutor. You might be wondering what you can do to prepare before your first tutoring session. Whether you are meeting your tutor online or in person, here are a couple things you can do to prepare so that  you can feel comfortable and confident when you meet your tutor!

Quiet Space To Meet

Meeting in person or online, you will need to find a quiet space to work. This should be away from phones, TVs, and other devices, so you can concentrate and get into the zone of learning. Find a space away from the busyness in the home so you and your tutor can work one on one and begin to connect.

Something To Write With

It is always helpful to have something to write with during a tutoring session. Many students enjoy using a whiteboard and marker while others prefer a notebook and pencil. This can be helpful for any subject! Writing is another way we learn and process information. Having writing tools accessible gives your tutor an opportunity to incorporate another layer of learning into the session.

What are your Goals? Is homework or test prep important?

Many students begin tutoring with a specific subject or goal in mind. If you have homework or a study guide for an upcoming test, it’s important to have those materials available. Then you and your tutor can begin working on those areas right away. With your permission, tutors can also reach out to classroom teachers to get updates on what you are working on in school so they are better prepared for your tutoring session as well.

Positive Attitude

You may feel a little nervous when you first meet your tutor and that is okay! Your tutor is excited to meet and work with you. They are looking forward to helping you reach your goals and want you to feel as comfortable as possible. Relax, you are going to have fun and enjoy learning! See you there!

We hope these tips will help you and your child have a successful tutoring experience!  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly at 215-657-1981. We look forward to working with you and your child!
