As we prepare for the new redesigned SAT in the spring of 2016, many parents are inquiring for more information about the ACT. Our community is very SAT driven, however, the ACT is a great option for students.
Here are some quick facts about the ACT that can help you consider this test as an option for your student.
The ACT is accepted at all 4 year colleges and universities in the United States.
There are 4 multiple choice sections and an optional writing section of the ACT exam.
The multiple choice sections include: English, Mathematics, Reading, Science.
The English Section consists of 75 questions and it measures standard English and rhetorical skills. This section is 45 minutes in length.
The Mathematics section consists of 60 questions. This section measures a student’s math skills that are typically taught in courses up through the beginning of the 12th grade. This section is 60 minutes in length.
The Reading section consists of 40 questions and it measures a student’s reading comprehension skills. This section is 35 minutes in length.
The Science section consists of 40 questions. This section measures a student’s interpretation, analysis, evaluation, reasoning and problem solving skills required in the natural sciences. This section is 35 minutes in length.
The optional Writing Section includes only 1 prompt. This optional section measures a student’s writing skills that have been taught in high school English classes. This section is 40 minutes in length.
