The number of students who have been identified as having a disability that falls under the umbrella of receiving special education supports and services has increased over the years. With that being said, students are able to apply to receive accommodations on the SAT test as well. Students become comfortable and successful with their accommodations throughout their school career, therefore it is important to be knowledgeable that they are able to receive the accommodations on such an important test. In my experience, the criteria for accommodation is partly political; it expands or contracts at the will of school boards, legislators, bureaucrats. You have to arm yourself with what the criteria are, especially under ADA and other related laws. Two standard deviations are often required.
